Cijin island (Qijin in Pinyin) is a long and narrow island, extending in front of the bay of Kaohsoung for about 10km from northwest to southeast. Cijin acts as a buffer to the harbour of Kaohsiung. The northern end is connected via a ferry to Kaohsiung and is a recreation area with shops, restaurants, a beach and a picturesque temple dedicated to Matsu (Tiānhoù Gōng).
