Sri Mariamman is a Hindu temple in south bridge road. It is Singapore's oldest Hindu temple and is built in Dravidian style. The temple has an impressive gopuram at its main entrance and is richly decorated with magnificent bas-reliefs and statues. The first structure was set up as early as 1827 and the current temple completed in 1843. The central shrine of the temple is dedicated to Mariamman, the south Indian Hindu goddess of disease and rain.
