Nuremberg (Nürnberg in German) is a relatively large city with more than 500000 inhabitants in the Middle Franconia region of northern Bavaria. It's located in the plains at an altitude of 300m on the banks of the Pegnitz river.
Nürnberg was originally founded in the 11th century and quickly expanded due to its location on key trade routes, becoming an important city in Germany in the 14th-15th century. During the 15th and 16th centuries Nuremberg was the centre of the German renaissance. For this reason Nurnberg has a large and interesting historic core with many historic buildings. As such it is a popular tourist destination.
Nowadays Nuremberg is an important industrial centre with a focus on automation, energy and medical technology.
There are three universities (the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg and the Evangelische Hochschule Nürnberg.
How to get to Nuremberg
Nuremberg has an international airport with flights to several European cities and several tourist locations in the Mediterranean and Northern Africa. It is also reachable by train or car.
